What are the reasons for dropping out of the university?

Dropping out of the university could have an adverse effect on your career, but this would be the scenario decades ago. There weren't social media back then. Student debt won't be a serious issue. And the Open University (OU) wasn't an option. Why discuss it? Any decision will have consequences, and dropping out has an impact.

Let's have a look at the possible reasons:

You don't feel like socializing with other students. You might be an introvert, you might also be an extrovert who turns into an introvert whenever you step into university grounds. Socializing is part of a student's life, but joining societies and clubs won't be a mandatory requirement. There can be several reasons behind your hesitation, if not refusal, to be part of the herd. You don't want to go with the flow, as you would witness what could go wrong with group politics. You may be lucky to figure it out at an early age, but it's rather a rare case. As far as activities are concerned, you want it your way without wanting to think about the others. You're not inclined to share your study habits, even your thoughts. You're rather paranoid of others gaining advantage off your generosity. Your favorite pastime doesn't involve a company. All of these are valid ones, which will be examined later. Let's go to the next one.

You're yearning for a change. Living far from home opens up a wide range of possibilities, which excites you. It didn't take a year to figure out that a change of scenery might be the best option (or so you think). You want the fast-paced lifestyle in the city, such that you're getting too bored of living in a small town. You didn't like the course (or studying at all). You suspect that you'll learn more on the road, with a backpack, camera, and laptop. This will lead to the last one.

ou're eager to get a job. You'll look for a job sooner or later. You figure that you can put away a fraction of your earning to your savings account, and then spend it wisely. You promise to finish your studies someday.

Dropping out is a major decision, which you must think long and hard about it. You also need to talk about it, seeking advice from your family, friends, and your support team in the university. You might be surprised to find out that some members of the faculty will gladly advise you or recommend you to a guidance counselor. Experience is the best teacher, and your parents have lots of it. They have your best interest in mind. Last but not the least, you can be missing on many things if you drop out of the university.

You'll make lifelong friends, and you may collaborate with them on your way up the career ladder. A college degree will look good on your resume. And what you'll learn in the university will be useful in the workplace. You'll never know until you complete your degree. If you have what it takes to be a tech millionaire, then it will be a different story.
